Preparation Checks before Inspection
- Clean off excessive dirt - under chassis areas must be reasonably clean and not sprayed with oil.
- Please remove valuables and insecure loads before the inspection.
- A.B.S (anti-skid brake system) - these are not checked for function.
- Accelerators - must be in safe working conditions.
- Additional items - some additions need prior Traffic Department’s approval before fitting.
- Air Bags (S.R.S. systems) - these are not checked for function.
- Amber Beacon Warning lights - must be working for all FUEL and IRRIGATION tankers, BREAKDOWN recovery trucks and vehicles or trailers more than 2.6m wide only.
- Batteries - must be safe and securely mounted.
- Bodywork - excessive damage to bodywork can fail the LEGAL inspection.
- Brakes - all brakes must be safe and meet the minimum legal efficiency requirements.
- Bumpers - excessive damage to bumpers can fail the LEGAL inspection Trucks, Trailer & Buses must have reflective tape on their steel rear bumpers see Traffic Department’s announcement.
- Chassis - excessive damage to chassis parts can fail the inspection.
- Doors - must be in a safe working condition.
- Door handles - must be present, complete and in good working condition.
- Drive shafts - must be in safe working conditions.
- Electrical wires - must be safe, mounted and insulated.
- Engines - must be safe, operate and not drip oil (modified power outputs may require Traffic Department’s approval before fitting).
- Exhaust emissions - must meet the minimum legal requirement (CO and HC).
- Exhaust systems - pipes & silencers must be in good safe working conditions. (Modified exhaust may require the Traffic Department’s approval before fitting).
- Fire extinguishers - should be suitable, accessible, mounted and in good safe condition. Truck Semi-Trailers require at least one fire extinguisher to see the Traffic Department’s announcement.
- Fuel caps - must be safe, sealed and secure.
- Fuel systems - must be safe with no leaks or improper repairs.
- Headlights - headlights must be in a safe working condition and not 'dazzle' on coming road users on dip beam.
- Hoods - must be safe, they should open and close securely.
- Horns - must be in good working condition.
- License Plates - must be complete and in good readable condition to pass the LEGAL inspection.
- Lights & Switches - must be effective and in good safe working conditions (additional LED spotlights may require the Traffic Department’s approval before fitting).
- Mirrors - must be effective and in good safe working conditions.
- Modifications - all fundamental modifications and alterations must be approved by the Traffic Department.
- Mud guards - heavy vehicles must have effective wheel housing/mud guards on the rear wheels.
- Oil leaks - no leaks that drip excessively are allowed.
- Paint - excessive damage to paintwork can fail the LEGAL inspection (changes of paint colour require the Traffic Department’s approval before painting).
- Rear Red Reflectors - all vehicles and trailers must have approved rear red reflectors (triangle shaped for trailers) see Traffic Department’s announcement.
- Rear Red Reflective Stickers - all Trucks, Buses, Trailers, Caravans and Heavy Equipment must have RED ECE R104 C class reflective sticker tape professionally fitted on the rear for safety reasons.
- Reverse Horn - all commercial vehicles over 3,000kg GVW must have a working reverse horn.
- Safety belts - all front safety belts must be accessible and in good safe working conditions (modifications may require the Traffic Department’s approval before fitting).
- Seats - must be in good safe working condition.
- Shock absorbers - must be safe and effective.
- Side Under-Run Protection - all commercial vehicles over 3,000kg GVW must have approved side 'bumpers' that are fitted with yellow ECE R104 C class reflective tape see Traffic Department’s announcement.
- Spare Tires - are not required or checked for condition but these must be securely mounted where fitted.
- Steering - must be safe, smooth and without excessive play, modifications may require Traffic Department’s approval before fitting).
- Steering Wheel Covers - must be safe, securely fitted and in good condition without loose or missing parts.
- Sun visors - the driver's side sun visor must be safe and working.
- Suspension - must be in good safe working conditions without excessive damage (modifications may require the Traffic Department’s approval before fitting).
- Tinted windows - additional tints need the Traffic Department’s approval before fitting.
- Tires - must all be safe, correct size, construction type without excessive wear or damage.
- Transmissions - must be safe, working and not dripping oil.
- Vehicle Identification Number - all truck trailers must have a Qatar Traffic Department’s chassis number and plate that will be marked and fitted at the time of inspection after 01.04.2015.
- Wheel fixings - nuts, bolts and studs must be present, safe and effective.
- Wheels - must be safe, appropriate and without excessive damage.
- Windows - all glass must be safe, suitable and without excessive damage.
- Wipers - front wipers’ must clear the water effectively.
