Prepare Your Vehicle
Preparation Checks Before Inspection:
• Chassis: Under chassis areas must be reasonably clean and not sprayed with oil.
• Modifications: Additional items - some additions need prior Traffic Department’s approval before fitting.
• Electrical Wires: Electrical wires must be safe, mounted and insulated.
• Tires: Must all be safe, compatible size, construction type without excessive wear or damage.
• Wheel fixings: Nuts, bolts and studs must be present, safe and effective.
• Wheels: Must be safe, appropriate and without excessive damage.
• Spare tires: are not required or checked for condition, but they must be securely mounted where fitted.
• Fire extinguishers: should be suitable, accessible, mounted and in a good safe condition. Trucks and semi-trailers require at least one fire extinguisher.
(See the Traffic Department’s requirement).
• Vehicle lights and switches: Lights and switches must be operational and in a good safe working condition (additional LED spotlights may require
the Traffic Department’s approval before fitting).
• Headlights: Headlights must be in proper working condition and adjusted to prevent dazzling oncoming road users when on dip beam.
• Horns: Must be in good working condition.
• Wipers: Front wipers must be in good working condition and capable of clearing water effectively from the windshield.
• Mirrors must be operational and in a good safe working condition.
• Reverse horn: All commercial vehicles over 3,000kg GVW must have an operational reverse horn.
• Amber Beacon Warning lights: Must be on for all FUEL and IRRIGATION tankers, BREAKDOWN recovery trucks and vehicles or trailers more than 2.6m wide only.
• Batteries: Must be safe and securely mounted.
• Brakes: All brakes must be safe and meet the minimum legal efficiency requirements.
• A.B.S (anti-skid brake system): A.B.S. functions do not get checked.
• Body and Bumpers: Excessive damage to bodywork can cause failure at the LEGAL inspection. Trucks, trailers and buses must have reflective tapes on their
steel rear bumpers according to the Traffic Department’s requirement.
• Hoods: Must be in safe operating condition and capable of being opened and closed securely.
• Chassis: Excessive damage to chassis parts can cause failure at the inspection.
• Doors: Must be in a safe working condition.
• Door handles: Must be available, complete and in a good working condition.
• Windows: All glass must be safe, suitable and without excessive damage.
• Safety belts: All front safety belts must be accessible and in a good safe working conditions (modifications may require the Traffic Department’s approval before fitting).
• Seats: Must be in a good safe working condition.
• Modifications: All major modifications and alterations must be approved by the Traffic Department.
• Mud guards: Heavy vehicles must have operational wheel housing / mud guards on the rear wheels.
• Side under-run protection: All commercial vehicles over 3,000kg GVW must have approved side 'bumpers' that are fitted with yellow ECE R104 C class
reflective tape, in compliance with the Traffic Department’s requirement.
• Rear red reflectors: All vehicles and trailers must have approved rear red reflectors (triangle shaped for trailers) as required by the Traffic Department.
• Shock absorbers: Must be safe and effective.
• Suspension: Must be in a good safe working condition without excessive damage (modifications may require the Traffic Department’s approval before fitting).
• Exhaust emissions: Must meet the minimum legal requirement (CO and HC).
• Exhaust systems (pipes and silencers): Must be in a good and safe working conditions. (Modified exhaust may require the Traffic Department’s approval
before fitting).
• Engines: Must be safe, operational and not dripping oil (modified power outputs may require Traffic Department’s approval before fitting).
• Transmissions: Must be safe, operational and not dripping oil.
• Oil leaks: No excessive or continuous leaks are permitted.
• Fuel caps: Must be safe, sealed and secure.
• Fuel systems: Must be safe with no leaks or improper repairs.
• Paint: Excessive damage to paintwork can cause failure at the LEGAL inspection (changes of paint color require the Traffic Department’s approval before painting).
• License plates: Must be available and in a good readable condition to pass the LEGAL inspection.
• Vehicle identification number (VIN): All trucks and trailers must have a Qatar Traffic Department’s chassis number and plates that are marked and fitted at the time
of inspection after 01.04.2015. Tampering with or altering any VIN plates is not allowed.
• Tinted windows: Additional tints need the Traffic Department’s approval before fitting.
• Steering wheel covers: Must be safe, securely fitted and in a good condition without loose or missing parts.
• Drive shafts: Must be in a safe working condition.
• Accelerators: must be in a safe working condition.
• Air Bags (S.R.S. systems): Tempering with air bags (S.R.S. systems) is not allowed.
• Others: Steering wheel must be safe, smooth and without excessive modifications which may require Traffic Department’s approval before fitting.
